Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1954, Grant had a difficult childhood marked by poverty and family instability. Despite these challenges, he discovered his love of writing early on and went on to study English and History at the University of California, San Diego.
Grant's work has earned him numerous accolades, including being named to the New York Times Bestseller List multiple times. He is also a recipient of the prestigious ALA Best Book for Young Adults award.
