Description:
The Iliad
The lliad by Homer, dating from the 9th century BCE, is an epic poem which describes the dominant events of the final year of the Trojan war; the machinations of the gods, and the efforts of men. At the centre of this saga is Achilles, the greatest warrior of the Greeks, and his opponent, the mighty Hector of Troy. Homer builds a narrative bubbling with heroism, death, love, loyalty, compassion, and cruelty -an emotional struggle set against the capricious plans of the gods.
The Odyssey
Widely regarded as one of the great epics of all time, The Odyssey has had a lasting influence on European Renaissance literature. Composed in Greece around the 8th century BCE, it is often viewed as a continuation of the events that follow The Iliad.
The story follows the Greek hero Odysseus as he struggles to return to his kingdom, Ithaca, after the fall of Troy. His ten-year journey is filled with encounters with powerful gods, strange mythical creatures, and the constant troubles caused by his own reckless crew, Every trial brings him closer to his ultimate goal: reuniting with his faithful and patient wife, Penelope.
